What you are listening to
The audio and video come from the Saudi Broadcasting Authority’s Quran channel, which carries recitation and the five daily prayers from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah around the clock. QuranMecca is an independent project, with no affiliation or endorsement from the broadcaster or the mosque.
How the verse tracking works
Speech recognition listens to the broadcast and matches what it hears against the text of the Quran. When it finds the place, the reader moves to it, so the Arabic and the English translation follow the reciter without anyone pressing anything.
It is not infallible. Silence, the call to prayer, or a weak connection can leave the last verse on screen, and the match can land on the wrong ayah when a phrase occurs in several places. The reader works either way: turn off “Follow recitation” and it becomes an ordinary Quran reader you steer yourself.
How the text stays in time
There is one player on the page, picture and sound together, and it always stays live. Every ayah is marked with the moment in the broadcast it was recited, and the reader highlights it when the player reaches that moment, so text, sound and picture keep together without anything to adjust. If the highlight is ever on the wrong ayah, that is the recognition rather than the timing, and it usually puts itself right with the next one. Hide the video to just listen and read. The playback and sync guide goes through the controls one at a time.
