   Read the passage · Al-Mutaffifin

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   وَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ١

   Woe to those who give less [than due],

   ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ٢

   Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.

   وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ٣

   But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.

   أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ٤

   Do they not think that they will be resurrected

   لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍۢ٥

   For a tremendous Day -

   يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ٦

   The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

   كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍۢ٧

   No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌۭ٨

   And what can make you know what is sijjeen?

   كِتَٰبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ٩

   It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.

   وَيْلٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ١٠

   Woe, that Day, to the deniers,

   ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ١١

   Who deny the Day of Recompense.

   وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ١٢

   And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.

   إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ١٣

   When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."

   كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ١٤

   No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.

   كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ١٥

   No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.

   ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ١٦

   Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.

   ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ١٧

   Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny."

   كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ١٨

   No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun.

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ١٩

   And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun?

   كِتَٰبٌۭ مَّرْقُومٌۭ٢٠

   It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed

   يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ٢١

   Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].

   إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ٢٢

   Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure

   عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ٢٣

   On adorned couches, observing.

   تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ٢٤

   You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.

   يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍۢ مَّخْتُومٍ٢٥

   They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.

   خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌۭ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ٢٦

   The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.

   وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ٢٧

   And its mixture is of Tasneem,

   عَيْنًۭا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ٢٨

   A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.

   إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ٢٩

   Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

   وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ٣٠

   And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.

   وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ٣١

   And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.

   وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ٣٢

   And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost."

   وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ٣٣

   But they had not been sent as guardians over them.

   فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ٣٤

   So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,

   عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ٣٥

   On adorned couches, observing.

   هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ٣٦

   Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   لَمْ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ١

   Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence -

   رَسُولٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتْلُوا۟ صُحُفًۭا مُّطَهَّرَةًۭ٢

   A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures

   فِيهَا كُتُبٌۭ قَيِّمَةٌۭ٣

   Within which are correct writings.

   وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ٤

   Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence.

   وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلْقَيِّمَةِ٥

   And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.

   إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ شَرُّ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ٦

   Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

   إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ٧

   Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.

   جَزَآؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّٰتُ عَدْنٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا ۖ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِىَ رَبَّهُۥ٨

   Their reward with Allah will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
