   Read the passage · Yaseen 13–54

   وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ١٣

   And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -

   إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍۢ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ١٤

   When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."

   قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ١٥

   They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies."

   قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ١٦

   They said, "Our Lord knows that we are messengers to you,

   وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ١٧

   And we are not responsible except for clear notification."

   قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ١٨

   They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."

   قَالُوا۟ طَٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّسْرِفُونَ١٩

   They said, "Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."

   وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌۭ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ٢٠

   And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.

   ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًۭا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ٢١

   Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.

   وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ٢٢

   And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?

   ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ بِضُرٍّۢ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ٢٣

   Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?

   إِنِّىٓ إِذًۭا لَّفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ٢٤

   Indeed, I would then be in manifest error.

   إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ٢٥

   Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me."

   قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ٢٦

   It was said, "Enter Paradise." He said, "I wish my people could know

   بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ٢٧

   Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."

   ۞ وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ٢٨

   And We did not send down upon his people after him any soldiers from the heaven, nor would We have done so.

   إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ فَإِذَا هُمْ خَٰمِدُونَ٢٩

   It was not but one shout, and immediately they were extinguished.

   يَٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ٣٠

   How regretful for the servants. There did not come to them any messenger except that they used to ridicule him.

   أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ٣١

   Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them - that they to them will not return?

   وَإِن كُلٌّۭ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌۭ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ٣٢

   And indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us.

   وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّۭا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ٣٣

   And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.

   وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّٰتٍۢ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَٰبٍۢ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ٣٤

   And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs -

   لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ٣٥

   That they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful?

   سُبْحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ٣٦

   Exalted is He who created all pairs - from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.

   وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ٣٧

   And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

   وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّۢ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ٣٨

   And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

   وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ٣٩

   And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.

   لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّۭ فِى فَلَكٍۢ يَسْبَحُونَ٤٠

   It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.

   وَءَايَةٌۭ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ٤١

   And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship.

   وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ٤٢

   And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.

   وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ٤٣

   And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

   إِلَّا رَحْمَةًۭ مِّنَّا وَمَتَٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍۢ٤٤

   Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.

   وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ٤٥

   But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy... "

   وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍۢ مِّنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ٤٦

   And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

   وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ٤٧

   And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."

   وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ٤٨

   And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

   مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ٤٩

   They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.

   فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةًۭ وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ٥٠

   And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.

   وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ٥١

   And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.

   قَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ٥٢

   They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."

2. Maghrib

   17:47

   Read the passage · As-Saaffaat 114–138

   وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ١١٤

   And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.

   وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ١١٥

   And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,

   وَنَصَرْنَٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَ١١٦

   And We supported them so it was they who overcame.

   وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ١١٧

   And We gave them the explicit Scripture,

   وَهَدَيْنَٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ١١٨

   And We guided them on the straight path.

   وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ١١٩

   And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:

   سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ١٢٠

   "Peace upon Moses and Aaron."

   إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ١٢١

   Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

   إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ١٢٢

   Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.

   وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ١٢٣

   And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,

   إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ١٢٤

   When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah?

   أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًۭا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَٰلِقِينَ١٢٥

   Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators -

   ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ١٢٦

   Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"

   فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ١٢٧

   And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],

   إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ١٢٨

   Except the chosen servants of Allah.

   وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ١٢٩

   And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

   سَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ١٣٠

   "Peace upon Elias."

   إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ١٣١

   Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

   إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ١٣٢

   Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

   وَإِنَّ لُوطًۭا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ١٣٣

   And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.

   إِذْ نَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ١٣٤

   [So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,

   إِلَّا عَجُوزًۭا فِى ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ١٣٥

   Except his wife among those who remained [with the evildoers].

   ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْءَاخَرِينَ١٣٦

   Then We destroyed the others.

   وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ١٣٧

   And indeed, you pass by them in the morning

   وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ١٣٨

   And at night. Then will you not use reason?

   19:17

   Read the passage · An-Naml 59–66

   قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَسَلَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ عِبَادِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ ۗ ءَآللَّهُ خَيْرٌ أَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ٥٩

   Say, [O Muhammad], "Praise be to Allah, and peace upon His servants whom He has chosen. Is Allah better or what they associate with Him?"

   أَمَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَأَنزَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ حَدَآئِقَ ذَاتَ بَهْجَةٍۢ مَّا كَانَ لَكُمْ أَن تُنۢبِتُوا۟ شَجَرَهَآ ۗ أَءِلَٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌۭ يَعْدِلُونَ٦٠

   [More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allah? [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him].

   أَمَّن جَعَلَ ٱلْأَرْضَ قَرَارًۭا وَجَعَلَ خِلَٰلَهَآ أَنْهَٰرًۭا وَجَعَلَ لَهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ حَاجِزًا ۗ أَءِلَٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ٦١

   Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah? [No], but most of them do not know.

   أَمَّن يُجِيبُ ٱلْمُضْطَرَّ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَكْشِفُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ خُلَفَآءَ ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَءِلَٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ قَلِيلًۭا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ٦٢

   Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Little do you remember.

   أَمَّن يَهْدِيكُمْ فِى ظُلُمَٰتِ ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ وَمَن يُرْسِلُ ٱلرِّيَٰحَ بُشْرًۢا بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ ۗ أَءِلَٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ تَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ٦٣

   Is He [not best] who guides you through the darknesses of the land and sea and who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy? Is there a deity with Allah? High is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

   أَمَّن يَبْدَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ وَمَن يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَءِلَٰهٌۭ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ قُلْ هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَٰنَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ٦٤

   Is He [not best] who begins creation and then repeats it and who provides for you from the heaven and earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful."

   قُل لَّا يَعْلَمُ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلْغَيْبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ٦٥

   Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected."

   بَلِ ٱدَّٰرَكَ عِلْمُهُمْ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّۢ مِّنْهَا ۖ بَلْ هُم مِّنْهَا عَمُونَ٦٦

   Rather, their knowledge is arrested concerning the Hereafter. Rather, they are in doubt about it. Rather, they are, concerning it, blind.
