   Read the passage · Ash-Shu'araa 69–122

   وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ٦٩

   And recite to them the news of Abraham,

   إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ٧٠

   When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?"

   قَالُوا۟ نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًۭا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَٰكِفِينَ٧١

   They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted."

   قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ٧٢

   He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate?

   أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ٧٣

   Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?"

   قَالُوا۟ بَلْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ٧٤

   They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus."

   قَالَ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ٧٥

   He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping,

   أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ٧٦

   You and your ancient forefathers?

   فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ٧٧

   Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,

   ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ٧٨

   Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me.

   وَٱلَّذِى هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِى وَيَسْقِينِ٧٩

   And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink.

   وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ٨٠

   And when I am ill, it is He who cures me

   وَٱلَّذِى يُمِيتُنِى ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ٨١

   And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life

   وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِى خَطِيٓـَٔتِى يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ٨٢

   And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense."

   رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًۭا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ٨٣

   [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous.

   وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍۢ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرِينَ٨٤

   And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations.

   وَٱجْعَلْنِى مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ٨٥

   And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure.

   وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ٨٦

   And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray.

   وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ٨٧

   And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected -

   يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌۭ وَلَا بَنُونَ٨٨

   The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children

   إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍۢ سَلِيمٍۢ٨٩

   But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart."

   وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ٩٠

   And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous.

   وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ٩١

   And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators,

   وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ٩٢

   And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship

   مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ٩٣

   Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?"

   فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ فِيهَا هُمْ وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ٩٤

   So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators

   وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ٩٥

   And the soldiers of Iblees, all together.

   قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ٩٦

   They will say while they dispute therein,

   تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ مُّبِينٍ٩٧

   "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error

   إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ٩٨

   When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.

   وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ٩٩

   And no one misguided us except the criminals.

   فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَٰفِعِينَ١٠٠

   So now we have no intercessors

   وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍۢ١٠١

   And not a devoted friend.

   فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةًۭ فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ١٠٢

   Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... "

   إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ١٠٣

   Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.

   وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ١٠٤

   And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

   كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ١٠٥

   The people of Noah denied the messengers

   إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ١٠٦

   When their brother Noah said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?

   إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌۭ١٠٧

   Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.

   فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ١٠٨

   So fear Allah and obey me.

2. Maghrib

   Read the passage · Al-Infitaar

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنفَطَرَتْ١

   When the sky breaks apart

   وَإِذَا ٱلْكَوَاكِبُ ٱنتَثَرَتْ٢

   And when the stars fall, scattering,

   وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ٣

   And when the seas are erupted

   وَإِذَا ٱلْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ٤

   And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,

   عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌۭ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ٥

   A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.

   يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ٦

   O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,

   ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ٧

   Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?

   فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍۢ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ٨

   In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.

   كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِٱلدِّينِ٩

   No! But you deny the Recompense.

   وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَٰفِظِينَ١٠

   And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,

   كِرَامًۭا كَٰتِبِينَ١١

   Noble and recording;

   يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ١٢

   They know whatever you do.

   إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍۢ١٣

   Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,

   وَإِنَّ ٱلْفُجَّارَ لَفِى جَحِيمٍۢ١٤

   And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.

   يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ١٥

   They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,

   وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ١٦

   And never therefrom will they be absent.

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ١٧

   And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

   ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ١٨

   Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?

   يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌۭ لِّنَفْسٍۢ شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ وَٱلْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلَّهِ١٩

   It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.

   Read the passage · Ash-Shura 29–43

   وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍۢ ۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٌۭ٢٩

   And of his signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and what He has dispersed throughout them of creatures. And He, for gathering them when He wills, is competent.

   وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍۢ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَن كَثِيرٍۢ٣٠

   And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.

   وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّۢ وَلَا نَصِيرٍۢ٣١

   And you will not cause failure [to Allah] upon the earth. And you have not besides Allah any protector or helper.

   وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِ ٱلْجَوَارِ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَٰمِ٣٢

   And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains.

   إِن يَشَأْ يُسْكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظْلَلْنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍۢ شَكُورٍ٣٣

   If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

   أَوْ يُوبِقْهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَيَعْفُ عَن كَثِيرٍۢ٣٤

   Or He could destroy them for what they earned; but He pardons much.

   وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٍۢ٣٥

   And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.

   فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَىْءٍۢ فَمَتَٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ٣٦

   So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely

   وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُوا۟ هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ٣٧

   And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,

   وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ٣٨

   And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

   وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْبَغْىُ هُمْ يَنتَصِرُونَ٣٩

   And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves,

   وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟ سَيِّئَةٍۢ سَيِّئَةٌۭ مِّثْلُهَا ۖ فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ٤٠

   And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

   وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعْدَ ظُلْمِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيْهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ٤١

   And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame].

   إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظْلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبْغُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ٤٢

   The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.

   وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ٤٣

   And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination.
