   Read the passage · Al-Hijr 49–99

   ۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ٤٩

   [O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.

   وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ٥٠

   And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

   وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ٥١

   And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

   إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًۭا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ٥٢

   When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."

   قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ٥٣

   [The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

   قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ٥٤

   He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"

   قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ٥٥

   They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

   قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ٥٦

   He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"

   قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ٥٧

   [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

   قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ٥٨

   They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

   إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ٥٩

   Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

   إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ٦٠

   Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

   فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ٦١

   And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

   قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّنكَرُونَ٦٢

   He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."

   قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ٦٣

   They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,

   وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ٦٤

   And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

   فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌۭ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ٦٥

   So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

   وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌۭ مُّصْبِحِينَ٦٦

   And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

   وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ٦٧

   And the people of the city came rejoicing.

   قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ٦٨

   [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

   وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ٦٩

   And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."

   قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ٧٠

   They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

   قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ٧١

   [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

   لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ٧٢

   By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

   فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ٧٣

   So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

   فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ٧٤

   And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

   إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ٧٥

   Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

   وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍۢ مُّقِيمٍ٧٦

   And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.

   إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ٧٧

   Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

   وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ٧٨

   And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.

   فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ٧٩

   So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

   وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ٨٠

   And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.

   وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ٨١

   And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.

   وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ٨٢

   And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

   فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ٨٣

   But the shriek seized them at early morning.

   فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ٨٤

   So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

   وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ٨٥

   And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

   إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ٨٦

   Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.

   وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ٨٧

   And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an.

   لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ٨٨

   Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers

   18:53

   Read the passage · Al-Qiyaama

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ١

   I swear by the Day of Resurrection

   وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ٢

   And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

   أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ٣

   Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

   بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ٤

   Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

   بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ٥

   But man desires to continue in sin.

   يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ٦

   He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

   فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ٧

   So when vision is dazzled

   وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ٨

   And the moon darkens

   وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ٩

   And the sun and the moon are joined,

   يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ١٠

   Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

   كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ١١

   No! There is no refuge.

   إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ١٢

   To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

   يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ١٣

   Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.

   بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ١٤

   Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,

   وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ١٥

   Even if he presents his excuses.

   لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ١٦

   Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.

   إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ١٧

   Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

   فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ١٨

   So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

   ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ١٩

   Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

   كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ٢٠

   No! But you love the immediate

   وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ٢١

   And leave the Hereafter.

   وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ٢٢

   [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

   إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ٢٣

   Looking at their Lord.

   وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌۭ٢٤

   And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

   تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ٢٥

   Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

   كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ٢٦

   No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

   وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍۢ٢٧

   And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

   وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ٢٨

   And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation

   وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ٢٩

   And the leg is wound about the leg,

   إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ٣٠

   To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.

   فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ٣١

   And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.

   وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ٣٢

   But [instead], he denied and turned away.

   ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ٣٣

   And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

   أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ٣٤

   Woe to you, and woe!

   ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ٣٥

   Then woe to you, and woe!

   أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى٣٦

   Does man think that he will be left neglected?

   أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ٣٧

   Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

   ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ٣٨

   Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

   فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ٣٩

   And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

   أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْۦِىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ٤٠

   Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ١

   By the sky and the night comer -

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ٢

   And what can make you know what is the night comer?

   ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ٣

   It is the piercing star -

   إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ٤

   There is no soul but that it has over it a protector.

   فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ٥

   So let man observe from what he was created.

   خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ٦

   He was created from a fluid, ejected,

   يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ٧

   Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.

   إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ٨

   Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able.

   يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ٩

   The Day when secrets will be put on trial,

   فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ١٠

   Then man will have no power or any helper.

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ١١

   By the sky which returns [rain]

   وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ١٢

   And [by] the earth which cracks open,

   إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ١٣

   Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement,

   وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ١٤

   And it is not amusement.

   إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا١٥

   Indeed, they are planning a plan,

   وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا١٦

   But I am planning a plan.

   فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا١٧

   So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.
