   Read the passage · Taa-Haa 77–98

   وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًۭا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًۭا لَّا تَخَٰفُ دَرَكًۭا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ٧٧

   And We had inspired to Moses, "Travel by night with My servants and strike for them a dry path through the sea; you will not fear being overtaken [by Pharaoh] nor be afraid [of drowning]."

   فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ بِجُنُودِهِۦ فَغَشِيَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ٧٨

   So Pharaoh pursued them with his soldiers, and there covered them from the sea that which covered them,

   وَأَضَلَّ فِرْعَوْنُ قَوْمَهُۥ وَمَا هَدَىٰ٧٩

   And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them].

   يَٰبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ قَدْ أَنجَيْنَٰكُم مِّنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ وَوَٰعَدْنَٰكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلطُّورِ ٱلْأَيْمَنَ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ٨٠

   O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and We made an appointment with you at the right side of the mount, and We sent down to you manna and quails,

   كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ فَيَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبِى ۖ وَمَن يَحْلِلْ عَلَيْهِ غَضَبِى فَقَدْ هَوَىٰ٨١

   [Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen."

   وَإِنِّى لَغَفَّارٌۭ لِّمَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحًۭا ثُمَّ ٱهْتَدَىٰ٨٢

   But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.

   ۞ وَمَآ أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَٰمُوسَىٰ٨٣

   [Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?"

   قَالَ هُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ عَلَىٰٓ أَثَرِى وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَىٰ٨٤

   He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased."

   قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ٨٥

   [Allah] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray."

   فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدتُّمْ أَن يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُم مَّوْعِدِى٨٦

   So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"

   قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَٰكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَآ أَوْزَارًۭا مِّن زِينَةِ ٱلْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَٰهَا فَكَذَٰلِكَ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّامِرِىُّ٨٧

   They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw."

   فَأَخْرَجَ لَهُمْ عِجْلًۭا جَسَدًۭا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌۭ فَقَالُوا۟ هَٰذَآ إِلَٰهُكُمْ وَإِلَٰهُ مُوسَىٰ فَنَسِىَ٨٨

   And he extracted for them [the statue of] a calf which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot."

   أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًۭا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّۭا وَلَا نَفْعًۭا٨٩

   Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit?

   وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لَهُمْ هَٰرُونُ مِن قَبْلُ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنَّمَا فُتِنتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرِى٩٠

   And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order."

   قَالُوا۟ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَٰكِفِينَ حَتَّىٰ يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ٩١

   They said, "We will never cease being devoted to the calf until Moses returns to us."

   قَالَ يَٰهَٰرُونُ مَا مَنَعَكَ إِذْ رَأَيْتَهُمْ ضَلُّوٓا۟٩٢

   [Moses] said, "O Aaron, what prevented you, when you saw them going astray,

   أَلَّا تَتَّبِعَنِ ۖ أَفَعَصَيْتَ أَمْرِى٩٣

   From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?"

   قَالَ يَبْنَؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِلِحْيَتِى وَلَا بِرَأْسِىٓ ۖ إِنِّى خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْتَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِى٩٤

   [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.' "

   قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكَ يَٰسَٰمِرِىُّ٩٥

   [Moses] said, "And what is your case, O Samiri?"

   قَالَ بَصُرْتُ بِمَا لَمْ يَبْصُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَقَبَضْتُ قَبْضَةًۭ مِّنْ أَثَرِ ٱلرَّسُولِ فَنَبَذْتُهَا وَكَذَٰلِكَ سَوَّلَتْ لِى نَفْسِى٩٦

   He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me."

   قَالَ فَٱذْهَبْ فَإِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ أَن تَقُولَ لَا مِسَاسَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَكَ مَوْعِدًۭا لَّن تُخْلَفَهُۥ ۖ وَٱنظُرْ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَٰهِكَ ٱلَّذِى ظَلْتَ عَلَيْهِ عَاكِفًۭا ۖ لَّنُحَرِّقَنَّهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَنسِفَنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ نَسْفًا٩٧

   [Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast.

   إِنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عِلْمًۭا٩٨

   Your god is only Allah, except for whom there is no deity. He has encompassed all things in knowledge."

2. Maghrib

   18:48

   Al-Lail and At-Tin

   Read the passage · Al-Lail

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ١

   By the night when it covers

   وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ٢

   And [by] the day when it appears

   وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ٣

   And [by] He who created the male and female,

   إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ٤

   Indeed, your efforts are diverse.

   فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ٥

   As for he who gives and fears Allah

   وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ٦

   And believes in the best [reward],

   فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ٧

   We will ease him toward ease.

   وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ٨

   But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need

   وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ٩

   And denies the best [reward],

   فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ١٠

   We will ease him toward difficulty.

   وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ١١

   And what will his wealth avail him when he falls?

   إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ١٢

   Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance.

   وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْءَاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ١٣

   And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

   فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًۭا تَلَظَّىٰ١٤

   So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing.

   لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى١٥

   None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one.

   ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ١٦

   Who had denied and turned away.

   وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى١٧

   But the righteous one will avoid it -

   ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ١٨

   [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself

   وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍۢ تُجْزَىٰٓ١٩

   And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded

   إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ٢٠

   But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High.

   وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ٢١

   And he is going to be satisfied.

   Read the passage · At-Tin

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ١

   By the fig and the olive

   وَطُورِ سِينِينَ٢

   And [by] Mount Sinai

   وَهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْأَمِينِ٣

   And [by] this secure city [Makkah],

   لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِىٓ أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍۢ٤

   We have certainly created man in the best of stature;

   ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَٰهُ أَسْفَلَ سَٰفِلِينَ٥

   Then We return him to the lowest of the low,

   إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۢ٦

   Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for they will have a reward uninterrupted.

   فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِٱلدِّينِ٧

   So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?

   أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَحْكَمِ ٱلْحَٰكِمِينَ٨

   Is not Allah the most just of judges?

3. Isha

   20:18

   Abasa

   Read the passage · Abasa

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ١

   The Prophet frowned and turned away

   أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ٢

   Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].

   وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ٣

   But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified

   أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ٤

   Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?

   أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ٥

   As for he who thinks himself without need,

   فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ٦

   To him you give attention.

   وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ٧

   And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.

   وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ٨

   But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

   وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ٩

   While he fears [Allah],

   فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ١٠

   From him you are distracted.

   كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌۭ١١

   No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;

   فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ١٢

   So whoever wills may remember it.

   فِى صُحُفٍۢ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۢ١٣

   [It is recorded] in honored sheets,

   مَّرْفُوعَةٍۢ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ١٤

   Exalted and purified,

   بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍۢ١٥

   [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,

   كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍۢ١٦

   Noble and dutiful.

   قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ١٧

   Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.

   مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ١٨

   From what substance did He create him?

   مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ١٩

   From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;

   ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ٢٠

   Then He eased the way for him;

   ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ٢١

   Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.

   ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ٢٢

   Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.

   كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ٢٣

   No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.

   فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ٢٤

   Then let mankind look at his food -

   أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّۭا٢٥

   How We poured down water in torrents,

   ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّۭا٢٦

   Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],

   فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّۭا٢٧

   And caused to grow within it grain

   وَعِنَبًۭا وَقَضْبًۭا٢٨

   And grapes and herbage

   وَزَيْتُونًۭا وَنَخْلًۭا٢٩

   And olive and palm trees

   وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًۭا٣٠

   And gardens of dense shrubbery

   وَفَٰكِهَةًۭ وَأَبًّۭا٣١

   And fruit and grass -

   مَّتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ٣٢

   [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.

   فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ٣٣

   But when there comes the Deafening Blast

   يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ٣٤

   On the Day a man will flee from his brother

   وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ٣٥

   And his mother and his father

   وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ٣٦

   And his wife and his children,

   لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ شَأْنٌۭ يُغْنِيهِ٣٧

   For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.

   وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ مُّسْفِرَةٌۭ٣٨

   [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -

   ضَاحِكَةٌۭ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌۭ٣٩

   Laughing, rejoicing at good news.

   وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌۭ٤٠

   And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.
